Ultra High Power Resistors

High Pulse Absorption Resistors

Category: Ultra High Power Resistors

Description Specifications

The ESP series high pulse absorption resistors are designed for applications requiring the dissipation of large pulse energy within a short time. They are particularly suitable for circuits that need to absorb significant pulse energy, such as random strong pulse energy discharge resistors and variable frequency motor braking resistors. These resistors operate effectively without forced air cooling (though better performance can be achieved with fans).

Technical Features

  • RC Circuit Testing : The resistors utilize an RC circuit to test pulse load capacity. Specific parameters are listed in the table below.
  • Special Design : The resistors feature a unique cylindrical ceramic body structure with a thick-film resistor coating on 96% high-quality ceramic material. Both ends are plated with copper terminals, serving as electrical leads and providing mechanical support.
  • Pulse Load Capability : The resistors have excellent pulse load handling capability.

The  high pulse absorption resistors offer robust performance in applications requiring rapid energy dissipation. Their unique design, coupled with precise specifications, makes them versatile for various industrial and electronic systems. Whether used in braking circuits or other high-energy scenarios, these resistors provide reliable and efficient solutions.

Application Scenario: Variable Frequency Drive Braking Resistor

In industrial applications, variable frequency drives (VFDs) often require braking resistors to dissipate kinetic energy during rapid deceleration or stopping. The ESP series resistors are ideal for this purpose due to their high pulse absorption capability and stable performance under varying conditions.

Example:
  • Model : ESP300/40
  • Rated Power : 150W
  • Maximum Impulse Voltage : 5000V
  • Thermal Capacity : 0.65 KJ/°C
  • Operating Environment : Factory floor with ambient temperatures ranging from 25°C to 50°C.
Advantages:
  1. High Reliability : The thick-film resistor coating ensures consistent performance over time.
  2. Compact Design : The cylindrical shape allows for easy integration into tight spaces.
  3. Efficient Cooling : While passive cooling is sufficient, the design supports enhanced cooling with fans if needed.
Installation Notes:
  • Use M8 screws for mounting, ensuring a maximum torque of 4Nm.
  • Ensure proper thermal management by maintaining adequate spacing between resistors and other components.
This case study demonstrates how the ESP series resistors can effectively manage high-energy pulses in demanding industrial environments, ensuring reliable operation and extended component life.
